MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS (R)
"Mary Queen of Scots" explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary
Stuart (Ronan). Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies
pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim
her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the
compelling Elizabeth I (Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her "sister" in
fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a
masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus
independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary
asserts her claim to the throne.

STARTS FRIDAY, JANUARY 11th!!

THE MULE (R)
Earl Stone, a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of
his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive.
Easy enough, but, unbeknownst to Earl, he's just signed on as a drug courier
for a Mexican cartel. He does well -- so well, in fact, that his cargo
increases exponentially, and Earl is assigned a handler. But he isn't the
only one keeping tabs on Earl; the mysterious new drug mule has also hit the
radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates. And even as his money problems
become a thing of the past, Earl's past mistakes start to weigh heavily on
him, and it's uncertain if he'll have time to right those wrongs before law
enforcement, or the cartel's enforcers, catch up with him.

favourite_ver3.JPG
THE FAVOURITE (R)
Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck
racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman)
occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz)
governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and
mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail Masham (Emma Stone) arrives,
her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and
Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics
of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach
to fill in as the Queen's companion.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO
Sooooo, we survived a long and intense holiday season, with large crowds,
and lots of happy people!
We had an emergency on Christmas weekend that is something we had previously
only heard horror stories about. One of our projectors had a bulb explode,
and seriously damage the inside works of the unit! This was on Friday
afternoon of Christmas weekend! HELP!!
Thanks to the aid of some Chicago technicians, and a whole lot of money
spent shipping a vital part to arrive Sunday night, we were back and
operating on screen #3 on Monday!

Remember, we still had 2 screens running, but losing that 3RD screen on a
huge holiday weekend was a terrible thing!
I 'think' we made up for it quickly, but we'll never know. All I DO know is
that it sure put a temporary cramp in our holiday cheer!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The agony of only having three screens is most pronounced during the
holidays and summertime.
We were booked solid, and had to grit our teeth and forego showing Clint
Eastwood's THE MULE. It was something of MUCH concern for all of us, but we
had to just wait until the holiday movies could be cleared so we had a
screen free up for it!
That finally happens next Friday, on Jan. 11th!!
I'm sure many of you went to those "other guys" to see THE MULE, but we can
only hope there are still some of you who waited for us to get it, or didn't
have time to see it at all, or.want to see it again!!

So, at long last: Clint Eastwood's THE MULE will be at THE AVON on Friday,
Jan. 11
PLEASE PASS THE WORD!!
This was unavoidable with so many films coming out at the same time, but we
are STILL going to play it in HOPES you will come!

NOTE TO MY FILM CLASS STUDENTS:
The Winter 2019 course, "MORE AMERICANA AT THE MOVIES", will start Thurs,
January 31st.
Flyers and enrollment forms will be in our lobbies soon, and you can bet
you'll be hearing much more about it in the coming weeks.

Let's all look ahead to making 2019 the BEST YEAR YET!!
