HARRY POTTER and the Deathly Hallows---Part 2  (PG13)
And so it ends...
Ten years, and a whole series of great movies (not a clinker in the bunch), and it all comes to this...

There is nothing more that can be said that hasn't already been said ad infinitum (ain't it cool I use Latin phrases sometimes?).

Do you feel sad that after this episode there will be no more HARRY POTTER?

(I know as a theater operator, I will be VERY SAD to see ol' Harry hang up his spurs!!)

If you are a HARRY POTTER fan, this is nirvana for you!
BUT...we've had people come in to HARRY POTTER movies thinking they can "stand alone", in other words, they think you can see the movie with no prior knowledge of the story arc.
That is really not the case.
SOOOOO: If you are a true-blue HARRY POTTER fan, we'll see you there at the Avon with 100's of others.
If you are NOT a HARRY POTTER fan,...as Mr. Natural always said: "Don't mess with it!"

LARRY CROWNE  (PG13)
A HUGE HIT WITH THE AVON CROWD!!!
Can there be a more definitive "Avon Movie" than this? Not only does it star TOM HANKS and JULIA ROBERTS, but it was co-written by Hanks and NIA VARDALOS (that "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" girl!!), and also was DIRECTED & PRODUCED by Tom Hanks!
You can't go wrong with this middle-age "dramedy", and we at the Avon went to a LOT of trouble to get it here to counter-program the super-heroes, robots, and cartoons of Summer 2011!
Here is a summer movie for grown-ups!

TRANSFORMERS 3: DARK OF THE MOON (PG13)
Director Michael Bay sure takes his lumps with the cineaste's crowd, but he can deliver a huge, over-the-top, summertime popcorn picture like few in cinema history have been able!
I know that sounds rather bourgeois from a college film teacher, but I have to give credit where credit is due...
In the end, its all about selling tickets and getting fannies into seats!
The Transformers franchise is incredibly successful, in spite of the abysmal reviews they usually receive. Every filmmaker's dream is to have a movie that is "review-proof", and Michael Bay has got just that with these babies!    
This is a mammoth, loud, explosive film that just about tears Chicago to pieces! (All with the magic of impeccable special effects, that is!)
Screen sensation Shia LaBeouf (who really should change his name to one easier to spell and pronounce, but nobody asked me) and a great supporting cast that even includes Oscar-winner Frances McDormand and John Malkovich (and Patrick Dempsey, for heaven's sake!)---and Leonard Nimoy's voice (yes, you heard that right).

And, for those of you who may take a chance on this, but have not seen the previous films? Don't worry about it. You'll catch on real fast!
This is a "two-tub" real buttered popcorn movie, for sure!

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO
I don't know what to make of it....
The HARRY POTTER fever is so consumingly HOT, this last chapter already feels like the biggest film of the year!

Honestly, what was touted as the "biggest Summer in Hollywood history" has really been far from that.
Audiences grow increasingly weary of the Summer same ol', same ol'!
It seems Hollywood keeps cranking out headache-inducing, over-priced 3D baloney, or catering to the fanboys with endless comic book Superhero rehashes. 
The boardrooms of the studios are so far up in ivory towers, they can't even hear a faint whisper of what audiences really want any longer!

Well, howsabout some ORIGINAL THOUGHT??

Even the highly-anticipated "Super 8" was not the "surprise hit of the Summer" as it was hoped to be. 
-And, it was, for the most part, kinda' original!

Right now, the biggest question mark of the Summer is July 29th's COWBOYS & ALIENS with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig.
Will it be that elusive "surprise hit"?? We'll find out soon!

Right now we are riding a whirlwind with HARRY POTTER'S last chapter looming tonight at MIDNIGHT!

Watch this newsletter for more details as we get closer to the date. We will STILL DO this fun event, just not right now.
