MORNING GLORY (PG13) Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton & Rachel McAdams!! Need we say more??
UNSTOPPABLE (PG13) Denzel Washington in a mind-blowing action film about a runaway train!
CONVICTION (R) Hilary Swank delivers another Oscar-worthy performance, with an astounding supporting cast! ONE-WEEK-ONLY!!

NOV. 19th: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS--PT. 1 (It isn't going to be released in 3D after all, YAY!!)
...and MORE!!!!

Here is an action-packed hit with always reliable DENZEL WASHINGTON and newcomer CHRIS PINE (Capt. Kirk from the recent reboot of STAR TREK) about a runaway train, and the desperate measures taken to stop it before utter disaster.
Director Tony Scott is no stranger to this type of film, and the early reviews of this have been excellent!
Call it a "popcorn picture", but keep in mind the Avon has the best popcorn on the planet too!

THURS: 7:00

Due to a scheduling problem, we have to bring this fine film in for ONE-WEEK-ONLY, and we are lucky to be able to do even that!
This is that time of year when there is such a log-jam of movies, and with only 3 screens we can't possibly play them all...
However, the studio was gracious enough to let us bring this in for a too-brief run. See it NOW, because we can't possibly hold it over!
This is NOT me "marketing" either; we have the new HARRY POTTER coming next week, and CONVICTION can REALLY only play a WEEK!!
Here is Leonard Maltin's review...

Conviction reviewed by Leonard Maltin
I know, I know: this sounds like TV-movie fodder. But Conviction isn't a formulaic feel-good saga. It is based on a true story that takes many unexpected turns, and I found it quite moving. Hilary Swank plays a working-class Massachusetts woman in the 1980s who vows to go back to school and earn a law degree so she can help her innocent brother beat a murder rap that's put him in prison for life. Sam Rockwell is the brother, a lifelong hellraiser who can't believe his sister has that kind of devotion and determination.
Pamela Gray's script steers wide of clichés, and in the hands of such skillful actors, under Tony Goldwyn's sure-footed direction, Conviction spells out its story step by step. Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis, Melissa Leo, and Peter Gallagher head a solid supporting cast.

But the double-meaning of the title is well served by its two leading actors: they are committed to these characters, and it shows in their sincere, well-modulated performances.

A more definitive description of "Avon Gold" I have seldom seen! HARRISON FORD, DIANE KEATON & RACHEL McADAMS???
What about JEFF GOLDBLUM too?
This is one that I started frothing at the mouth about when I first saw it was coming!
Trust me on this: You will LOVE this one!

Bogart Movies - Part Two - FILM8835

Sect. 01: Thurs., Jan. 13 - March 3

Time: 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Instructor: Skip Huston

Location: Avon Theatre, Downtown, Decatur, IL

Cost: $80

When we first took a look at the films of that Hollywood icon Humphrey Bogart, it was 2 years ago and we devoted only a 5 week course right before Christmas as a "bridge" class between two of our regular 8 week courses.

What we discovered is a wealth of great movies

that a mere 5 weeks could not do justice in the least!

So, now the Richland-at-the-Avon film classes revisit "Bogey" and spend an entire 8 weeks screening and discussing some of his greatest classics, and some of his not-so-well-known films. As is always the case with Richland-at-the-Avon film classes, we NEVER divulge the titles of what you are going to see. But, rest assured with Avon Theater owner and class instructor Skip Huston at the helm (as he has been for the past 10 years of these classes) there will be an offering of films that will have much thought behind it!

So come and join a bunch of nice people of all ages and walks of life as we remember, and discover, the classic movie star that was Humphrey Bogart!
Come See Me, Folks!
I've got the popcorn hot and the REAL buttah bubblin' for YOU!!
