HALLOWEEN (R) So, why would THE AVON, that bastion of Decatur cinema integrity, play this movie?? Yes, it is true that Rob Zombie's revisit to the original classic from 1977 is said to be the best one since that first one, and, let's face it: When you come to a movie like this, you should KNOW what to expect, right? Well, as The Avon grows its audience, and, it seems more and more are making us their preferred theater choice in this area, we need to embrace as many diverse types of movies as possible. This will be a HUGE hit, and we want a piece of that pie! We are not a "non-profit" organization theater; we do not have the ultra-luxury of taxpayer-supported grants and philanthropic donations---we have to SELL TICKETS to survive! Soooooo, keeping all that in mind, be assured that this movie will open at NUMBER ONE this weekend! BUT, don't for a second think this is a "new direction" for us. We will continue to "cherry pick" the films as they come out! (We just won't be as snobby!)
HALLOWEEN (R)
(Showtimes in brackets are $5.50 "Bargain Matinees")
FRI: (5:00) - 8:00
SAT & SUN: (2:00) - (5:00) - 8:00
MON (Labor Day): (4:15) - 7:15
TUES, WED & THURS: 7:15

SICKO (PG13) We told you we would get to this eventually, didn't we? Now, those of you who refused to see it anywhere else can finally see Michael Moore skewer the health-care industry at the good 'ol Avon! Is this "political"?? Not really. I think Moore is an "equal-opportunity" investigative journalist in this one! In other words: As he portrays it, the Liberals are just as much to blame for the poor state of American health-care as the Conservatives! Is this the bonafide, carved-in-granite, true and true TRUTH??? Maybe. Maybe not. He sure lays out a compelling expose', however! ONE-WEEK-ONLY!!
SICKO (PG-13)
(Showtimes in brackets are $5.50 "Bargain Matinees")
FRI: (4:00)
SAT & SUN: (1:00) - (4:00)
MON (Labor Day): (3:30) - 6:30
TUES, WED & THURS: 6:30

THE NANNY DIARIES (PG13) Looking for a pleasant "chick flick" diversion this weekend? You can't go wrong here! This film adaptation of the popular best-selling book starring Scarlett Johansson and Laura Linney (what a babe!) will have you laughing at the stereotypical portrayals of those ultra-rich New York types who want to have children, but don't want to raise them...Enter the "nanny"!
Duck in out of the hot sun for a Labor Day weekend treat!
THE NANNY DIARIES (PG-13)
(Showtimes in brackets are $5.50 "Bargain Matinees")

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (PG13) We just hate to let this one go! I figured it couldn't hurt to play it on a limited basis during the extended holiday weekend, so here it is! However, be absolutely convinced that it ENDS ON SUNDAY!! We ain't kiddin', either!
THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (PG-13)

HELLOS & GOODBYES (sniff sniff)
It's always tough this time of year...
We see many of the staffers we have come to really like go away to school, and others have to cut their schedules drastically because local school has started! (Darn ol' school!).
To that end, our stalwart Brian Harden, who has worked almost full-time all Summer, will now be going down to a very limited part-time because his Senior Year as a Theater student at Millikin has now started. That happy, always-smiling Jennifer Snarsky, has already left for her college in Greenville, but promises to be back to work for Christmas break. School also played a part in our seeing Teddy Blakey and Sara Davis bid us farewell after a great Summer!
So much for the "goodbyes"...
Now, the "hellos"...
You will start to see a lot of newbie Ashley Petty very soon (in fact she is already there!), and brand-newbie Hannah Elliot starts on the 6th. My daughter, Melissa Huston-Rinchiuso, will be around a lot more now that she and her husband have moved back to Decatur from Bloomington. Plus, our granddaughter, Lily-Belle, will be around more as well!

I look back on almost 9 years of staffers with great fondness. True, some of them were utter nightmares, but for the most part, they were all tremendous young people!
We TRY to hire only the best and brightest at The Avon!
MOST of the time, we succeed!

COME SEE ME THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!!
