all-too-brief scene in Michael Mann's excellent 1995 crime drama HEAT,
these two screen legends have never really acted together before! Believe
it or not, all THE GODFATHER-PT2 scenes with DeNiro were flashbacks, so the Al
Pacino portrayed Michael Corleone could not possibly have shared any scenes with
him. NOW, we have BOTH of them, ROBERT DeNIRO and AL
PACINO-- <U>TOGETHER</U> as wise-acre cop buddies tracking down a killer
they may have some surprising sympathies for. Many of you (including me) have
been waiting for this pairing for a long time, and I am as pumped up about
seeing it as you are (or should be). Frankly, I don't care what the critics say,
and I don't even care if the movie is any good; the chance to see these two
playing opposite each other is a film-buff's
dream!</FONT></FONT></FONT></STRONG></DIV>

Flicks", and with darn good reason...We LOVE them!

size=2>With Hollywood so shamelessly ignoring the over-30 woman market, and then
being <EM>sooooo surprised</EM> when movies like THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, MAMMA
MIA! and SEX AND THE CITY do great business; it makes you wonder if the studios
are being run to the dictates of 12 year old boys!
</FONT></FONT></FONT></FONT></STRONG></DIV>
<DIV><STRONG><FONT face=Georgia size=2><FONT face=Tahoma><FONT size=4><FONT
size=2>Well, the Avon has always done well with these kind of movies, and <U>we
are proud to say it</U>. This remake of the George Cukor 1939 classic starring
Joan Crawford, Rosiland Russell and Norma Sherer has been updated a bit. It's
still about a cheating husband and the wronged wife's buddies, but the
"cattiness" of the original has been toned down to more contemporary
sensibilities. The cast in this is, frankly, astounding, and includes MEG RYAN,
ANNETTE BENING, DEBRA MESSING, BETTE MIDLER, CLORIS LEACHMAN, JADA PINKETT SMITH
and just about every other actress over 30 that was available during the
shooting.</FONT></FONT></FONT></FONT></STRONG></DIV>
<DIV><STRONG><FONT face=Georgia size=2><FONT face=Tahoma><FONT size=4><FONT
size=2>AND, just as in the original, there are NO MEN in the
cast!</FONT></FONT></FONT></FONT></STRONG></DIV>

version was extremely difficult for us to secure, and I hope all of you will
support it to make it worth the trouble. Not only is the Avon the ONLY local
theater still playing MAMMA MIA!, but we are the only one with the SING-ALONG
version within 50 miles or more. MAMMA is now in its 7th week, and that is
getting very close to the record set by THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA's 9
weeks!</FONT></FONT></FONT></STRONG></DIV>

POLITICS AT THE MOVIES started this Thursday, we will ALSO be starting a
series of short-form (5 to 6 week) classes that concentrate on one iconic

POLITICS class we will do a 5 week series of BOGART MOVIES, and then, later in
