THE FAVOURITE (R)
Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck
racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman)
occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz)
governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and
mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail Masham (Emma Stone) arrives,
her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and
Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics
of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach
to fill in as the Queen's companion.

Laurel & Hardy, one of the world's great comedy teams, set out on a variety
hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as
the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain
future. As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they
re-connect with their adoring fans. The tour becomes a hit, but Stan & Ollie
can't quite shake the specter of Laurel and Hardy's past; the long-buried
ghosts, coupled with Oliver's failing health, start to threaten their
precious partnership. A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative
marriages!

showtime!

>From the creative mind of Oscar nominee Steven Knight comes a daringly

McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil,
tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered,
however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks
him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her - and
their young son - from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him
out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave
him for dead.

THE AVON THEATER'S WINTER 2019 FILM CLASS STARTS NEXT THURSDAY, JAN. 31st!!
            "MORE AMERICANA at the MOVIES"
An 8 week screening and discussion series of movies that portray all facets
of American life, at any time or any given era. You'll see some bona fide
masterpieces, and some that you've always meant to see, but never got around
to (or, some you've never heard of!) 
"AMERICANA" can be any genre; drama, comedy, adventure, musicals, epics. You
never know what you're going to get!!
Join fellow film buffs like yourself in this latest edition of this popular
series of the Avon Theater's 19 years of film classes!
Classes are always on THURSDAYS, and start THURSDAY, JANUARY 31st at 6:30 PM
(to around 9 PM) and end on THURSDAY, MARCH 21st.
