Three brilliant visionaries set off in a charged battle for the future in
The Current War, the epic story of the cutthroat competition that literally
lit up the modern world. Benedict Cumberbatch is Thomas Edison, the
celebrity inventor on the verge of bringing electricity to Manhattan with
his radical new DC technology. On the eve of triumph, his plans are upended
by charismatic businessman George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon), who
believes he and his partner, the upstart genius Nikolai Tesla (Nicholas
Hoult), have a superior idea for how to rapidly electrify America: with AC
current. As Edison and Westinghouse grapple for who will power the nation,
they spark one of the first and greatest corporate feuds in American
history, establishing for future Titans of Industry the need to break all
the rules.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO
There is an interesting story behind the movie THE CURRENT WAR.
It was supposed to come out in 2017, but it was a Weinstein Film, and that
was the year all the scandal broke about Harvey Weinstein.
I was hoping all that scorched earth would not hurt the release of THE
CURRENT WAR, but, of course it did.
For all his inappropriate and criminal allegations, Harvey was VERY good at
finding movies to release, and then riding them all the way to the Oscars.
His track record of "Best Picture" and other Oscars wins and nods, is
nothing short of astounding!

I sincerely felt at that time THE CURRENT WAR would go all the way to the
Oscars.
With its original holiday season 2017 release (which was dropped), it had
all the usual earmarks for another massive Harvey Weinstein promo push.
And then the hammer came down.

THE CURRENT WAR was lost in limbo, as all the scandalous aspects about
Harvey came pouring out. There were only a few movies that were orphaned
when Weinstein folded, and THE CURRENT WAR was the most prestigious of the
ones remaining.
So, it languished in some cinema purgatory until recently a small
distributor picked it up.
Unfortunately, their promo budget wasn't as high as the gazillions Harvey
would spend to promote a picture, so it had a quiet release this Fall, and
then vanished.
I would get questions about it all the time from many of you, but I had no
answers either.

Now, it's here.
The director did some tinkering with it, hence why its called "Director's
Cut", but the story, the performances and the gorgeous cinematography all
speak for themselves.
It's the only major 'new" movie opening in town this weekend, and I hope you
will come see it!
