BLADE RUNNER 2049 (R)
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD
Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the
potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. K's discovery leads
him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade
runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Critics Consensus: Visually stunning and narratively satisfying, Blade
Runner 2049deepens and expands its predecessor's story while standing as an
impressive filmmaking achievement in its own right.

HERE'S A FUNNY & TRUE 1973 STORY!!
GREAT CAST!! OSCAR BUZZ!!
BATTLEposter.JPG
BATTLE OF THE SEXES (PG13)
In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women's movement,
the 1973 tennis match between women's World #1 Billie Jean King (Emma Stone)
and ex-men's-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed
as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES and became one of the most watched televised
sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As
the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was
fighting more personal and complex battles. The fiercely private King was
not only championing for equality, but also struggling to come to terms with
her own sexuality, as her friendship with Marilyn Barnett (Andrea
Riseborough) developed. And Riggs, one of the first self-made media-age
celebrities, wrestled with his gambling demons, at the expense of his family
and wife Priscilla (Elisabeth Shue). Together, Billie and Bobby served up a
cultural spectacle that resonated far beyond the tennis court, sparking
discussions in bedrooms and boardrooms that continue to reverberate today.

Critics Consensus: Battle of the Sexes turns real-life events into a
crowd-pleasing, well-acted dramedy that ably entertains while smartly
serving up a volley of present-day parallels.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES (PG13)
FRI: (4:00) - 7:00
SAT & SUN: (1:00) - (4:00) - 7:00
MON thru THURS: 6:30

STEPHEN KING'S NEW INSTANT CLASSIC!!
ARE YOU READY FOR "IT"??

"IT"'s READY FOR YOU!!
it_ver3quad.JPG

Stephen King's IT (R)
New Line Cinema's horror thriller "IT," directed by Andy Muschietti
("Mama"), is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same
name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. When children begin to
disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with
their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named
Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

Critics Consensus: Well-acted and fiendishly frightening with an emotionally
affecting story at its core, It amplifies the horror in Stephen King's
classic story without losing touch with its heart.

Stephen King's IT (R)
FRI: (4:45) - 8:00
SAT: (1:30) - (4:45) - 8:00
SUN: (1:30) - (4:45)

STARTS FRIDAY, OCT. 13th!!
VICTORIAANDABDUL.JPG
VICTORIA & ABDUL (PG13)
The extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years
of Queen Victoria's (Academy Award winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When
Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in
the Queen's Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen
herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position,
the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another
that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. As the
friendship deepens, the Queen begins to see a changing world through new
eyes and joyfully reclaims her humanity.
Critics Consensus: Victoria & Abdul reunites Dame Judi Dench with the role
of Queen Victoria -- which is all this period drama needs.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO

Many of you don't know that I have strong family ties to Nevada, and to Las
Vegas.
My wife, Sue Burke, is from Reno, and my father was born and raised in
Montello, Nevada.
At one point in my life, I lived in Las Vegas, and went to Jr. High School
there.
I still have some family that live there now.

Las Vegas in the early 1960's was everything you've ever seen in the movies
with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the rest of the Rat Pack.
I saw the Beatles in their first American tour there.
I watched Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret film the opening scene to "Viva Las
Vegas".
There was glamour everywhere I looked.

But not this week.

None of us can ever know or understand what happens in the dark night of
someone's soul to make them commit
atrocities like we saw.and have seen.
Sometimes, there really aren't any answers.

I just wanted to say how sad and sorry I am for all of them, and for all of
us.

A bit of our humanity is lost every time one of these incomprehensible
horrors happen.
