Already a strain on his younger brother (Danny DeVito) and his wife (Patti LuPone), Jackie is forced to serve out a sentence doing community service for accosting an audience member. While there, he meets Harmony (Leslie Mann), the daughter of a sleazy Florida real estate mogul (Harvey Keitel), and the two find inspiration in one another resulting in surprising consequences.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO
As I often tell my film students, many great movies were NOT made in English.
I don’t know why so many have a problem with subtitles.
When my wife watches TV at home, she always has the closed captions on, and she is not hard of hearing in the least.
When I watch a Shakespeare at home, I always turn on the subtitles so I can figure out what the heck they are saying!

We are showing, starting this weekend, for ONE WEEK ONLY: The French film “ELLE” with Best Actress nominee Isabelle Huppert.
This is a powerful film, and Huppert richly deserves the nomination.
In fact, she was the favorite to win for several months until “LA LA LAND” became the seemingly unstoppable force, with a mind boggling 14 nominations.
Now, its La La’s Emma Stone who is the favorite to win this Sunday, but Isabelle Huppert is still going to be hard to beat.

“ELLE” is the ONLY major Oscar nominee that has not yet played the Decatur area.

The Avon has always been a big supporter of Oscar season.
Its been a tradition with us since we opened 17 years ago.
After Sunday’s awards, all the shouting is over until next October when Awards season starts again.

Those of you who have been waiting to see “ELLE”, here it is!
Those of you who are curious and may be thinking of giving it a chance, remember its subtitled, and definitely is an R-rated film.

The Avon’s art house roots come out every once in awhile, and I, for one, am glad to see we still remember the crowd that established us in the first place.
