Beautiful young widow Lady Susan Vernon visits to the estate of her in-laws
to wait out the colourful rumours about her dalliances circulating through
polite society. Whilst ensconced there, she decides to secure a husband for
herself and a future for her eligible but reluctant daughter, Frederica. In
doing so she attracts the simultaneous attentions of the young, handsome
Reginald DeCourcy, the rich and silly Sir James Martin and the divinely
handsome, but married, Lord Manwaring, complicating matters severely.
 Love & Friendship finds director Whit Stillman bringing his talents to bear
on a Jane Austen adaptation -- with a thoroughly delightful period drama as
the result.

NOTE FROM SKIP: This is the first time the Jane Austen novella "Lady Susan"
has been filmed! They have done an excellent job! We passed on playing the
new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" to play this one, so I better see ALL of
you!! Knowhutimean??

Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn
of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most
powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many
other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after
thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and
recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto

which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven

In Disney's "Alice Through the Looking Glass," an all-new spectacular
adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll's
beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and
travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. Directed by James Bobin, who
brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on
screen in 2010 with "Alice in Wonderland," the film is written by Linda
Woolverton based on characters created by Lewis Carroll and produced by Joe
Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd and Tim Burton with John G. Scotti
serving as executive producer. "Alice Through the Looking Glass" reunites
the all-star cast from the worldwide blockbuster phenomenon, including:
Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter along
with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy
Spall. We are also introduced to several new characters: Zanik Hightopp
(Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter's father and Time himself (Sacha Baron Cohen),
a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock. Alice Kingsleigh
(Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father's
footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes
across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of
Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Sheen), Absolem (Rickman), the
Cheshire Cat (Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter
has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow
the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock
which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends - and
enemies - at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race
to save the Hatter before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D(TM), Real D
3D and IMAX (R) 3D, Disney's "Alice Through the Looking Glass" opens in U.S.
theaters on May 27, 2016.

Almost time for the Avon's popular film classes to resume!!
This Summer marks the 16th year of our most popular screening and discussion
series: OVERLOOKED FILMS.

We'll give you 8 weeks from Thursday, June 16th to Thursday, Aug. 4th of
movies that flew "under the radar".
You may find your next favorite movie!!
(We never announce the selections beforehand because the choices are always
in flux according to what seems to appeal to any class group)

As always, the 8 week course is $80, and can be paid at our box office by
cash, check or credit card.

Class starts always at 6:30, and we give you plenty of notice if a
particularly long film will be presented.
Most of our selections will have you out by 9:00 PM.

Come join a whole lot of great folks with something in common with all of
you: They are FILM BUFFS!!
Flyers/enrollment are available NOW in our lobbies, but you don't have to
wait for that!

My wife went out to see a movie we weren't playing at those "other guys" the
other day (and she quickly found out WHY we weren't playing it, namely: it
stunk) and decided to see for herself just how long the commercials and
previews were at that place.
THIRTY MINUTES!!
HALF AN HOUR OF INANE NATIONAL AD SPOTS AND COUNTLESS PREVIEWS FOR THINGS
SHE'D NEVER WANT TO SEE!

I thought: THIS is why people come in late at the Avon and are so shocked
that the movie has already started!
Point is, folks, our "pre-show" is 12-15 minutes, tops. We ONLY show local
ads from places I APPROVE OF, and there are never more than 4 previews, 5 at
the very most on rare occasions.
PLUS.I hand-pick the previews to be appropriate to the movie you are seeing!

Yes, we are truly "old-fashion" in that we put respect for the customer
first.

We aren't as slick as those "McTheaters", but we really don't want to be!

Try and remember THE AVON starts the movie within 12-15 minutes of the
listed showtime.
And, please, please, please APPRECIATE IT!
We could be making so much more money if we started playing 30 minutes of
national advertising too!
