During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is
presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney
has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet.
With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit
to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of
miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to
bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if
not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery
unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return. Based on
a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE
MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen
Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald
Glover.

fashion website run by a young, career-driven woman. 70-year-old widower Ben
Whittaker (Robert De Niro) has discovered that retirement isn't all it's
cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes
a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin
(Anne Hathaway.

The ghostly month of free Halloween movies at the Avon, and the Rocky Horror
Picture Show, and the start of the Fall/Winter movie season!!
We’re kicking it off big time with this week’s THE MARTIAN. This is from my
favorite living director, Ridley Scott, and is getting rave reviews. Don’t
miss it!!

The latest issue of DECATUR MAGAZINE has a wonderful article on the Avon’s
Film Classes. Pick up an issue and see what you have been missing these past
15 years of classes!
(And, by the way, you can still sign up late for this Fall’s course, “GREAT
SCREEN TEAMS—PART 2”. We are only 2 weeks into the 8 week course, and we
will pro-rate the tuition of $80 to credit you for the classes missed. Just
come in about 6PM on Thursday and see our mighty General Manager, Ashley,
and she’ll get you all set up! Classes are at 6:30 every Thursday until the
course is over on Nov. 5th. There is still a lot of fun yet to come!!)

Hellos and Goodbyes

Please welcome our brand new staffer Nikki Nelson, and a big welcome back to
returning staffers Mallory Wiedenkeller and Brynna Bergin. You’ll remember
those two because they were with us for years. We had a few slots open, and
we are pleased they had some time for us!
But, as with all “Hello’s”, there is usually a “Goodbye”, and long-time
staffer, Leslie Dale, leaves us to pursue another path. She will be missed.
She has been with the Avon for 7+ years. We wish her all the best.
