The North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s - George and Serena
Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena
soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting
rattle-snakes, even saving a man's life in the wilderness. With power and
influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in
the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers
George's hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the
Pemberton's passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic
reckoning.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO

Easter weekend!

It was this weekend back in 1999 that we first opened our doors at the
re-opened Avon.

Now, 16 years later, we start our 17th year of continuous operation.

("Certain unnamed people" only gave us 6 months, tops, when we first
re-opened!!!_

One of the results of operating a small business in a fairly small town, is
you see your customer base grow older, and ultimately lose patrons from
relocation, illness, divorce or death. (Or all four!)

And, the return result is our customers get to see the life's changes in me!
When I re-opened the Avon, I was in my late 40's. I TRULY was 39!

Now, in August, I will be 65. (Yup, I finally told the truth about my age!)

But, you know what?

I wouldn't have wanted to spend these past 16 years in any other way!
And, I HOPE there is at least another 16 years still yet to come!

I had no idea the Avon, which was supposed to be an early 'semi-retirement'
project for me, would become my life's work, and overshadow all that had
come before!!
AND, it's all thanks to YOU!!
