Two-time Academy Award (R)-winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar (R)-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks," inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen. When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins," he made them a promise-one that he didn't realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney's plans for the adaptation. For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops,  and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO

Not exactly pool weather!
Those of you who know me well (and that seems like everybody!) know that I LOVE hot weather.
It really can't get too hot for me!
The summer before last when we had like 6 weeks of 90+ degree weather, I was very pleased!

But, COLD??
I don't dig it daddy-o!

And, THIS???
It goes beyond cold, as far as I'm concerned.
It's some kind of North Pole torture!
Santa and his elves decided we were ALL on the "naughty list" and sent a late lump of coal for our stocking!

I'm hoping this was our ENTIRE winter compressed into several days of outrageous hoo-hah!
BUT, we'll see...

I hated that we had to close on Sunday & Monday, but I have to put YOUR safety and our staff safety first!
(I noticed there were "some" theaters who tried to stay open in that white frigid mess, and I can only give them a BIG "thumbs down" in their obvious quest for the very last penny).

One unfortunate by-product of closing Sunday and Monday is that we lost 2 days of PHILOMENA and ALL IS LOST!!
We MUST drop them both after the Thursday showings, and that gave all of you less than a week to see these 2 superb films!
Try and get there in the next three days.
They both start at 6:30 in the Twins.
I'm really, really serious when I say that, due to studio obligations, we have to let BOTH of them go after Thursday!

We've got the heat cranked at the Avon, and the sidewalk is clear.
Stay safe & warm, we aren't quite out of this yet.
