LINCOLN (PG13) Historical Epic 150 min (not including 8 to 12 min of previews and/or cartoon)
Steven Spielberg directs Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln, a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President's tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.
Thanks in part to a phenomenal performance from Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln is a witty, dignified portrait of the American icon that immerses the audience in its world and entertains even as it informs.

SKYFALL (PG13) Action/Drama--Running time 143 min (not including 8 to 12 min of previews)
I remember a gazillion years ago, back in the early 1960's, going to see a movie called "Dr. No" at a Decatur movie theater (not the Avon) and not having any idea what I was about to see...
Oh, sure, I knew President Kennedy was a fan of the Ian Fleming Bond books, but I wasn't quite sure this was something I was going to like.
After all, I was raised on a steady diet of monster movies, and, if it wasn't Frankenstein, Dracula, or the Wolfman, I wasn't too interested.

Then, "that music" came on, and what began was a 50 year span of James Bond movies!
(And when Ursula Andress came out of the ocean in that bikini, well...)

Yes, Sean Connery was a cool James Bond, and Roger Moore was a bit of a winky-wink dandy.
One-time-only Bond George Lazenby was really pretty good in retrospect.
Timothy Dalton was the first Bond since Sean Connery to fully exude a palpable sense of danger, but Pierce Brosnan was more of a distillant of Roger Moore...
Then came Daniel Craig.

I was familiar with Daniel Craig because he had appeared in many movies, mostly in supporting roles.
-I thought he would be terrible as Bond!
BUT...I forgot one important thing!
Daniel Craig is the BEST actual "ACTOR" to ever play Bond.

I saw this last weekend, folks, and.....WOWSER!!!!
And, all you Bond fans, just wait until a "certain car" shows up toward the end...
A "certain car" not seen on the screen since GOLDFINGER in 1964!

TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN Pt. 2 (PG13) Fantasy/ Romance 115 min. (not including 8 to 12 min of previews and/or cartoon)
The astonishing conclusion to the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2, illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO

What a Thanksgiving!
It was an exhausting 10 days that started with the Nov. 15th midnight showing of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Pt. 2", and then led into our incredible still-ongoing run of Steven Spielberg's masterpiece "Lincoln" the very next day on the 16th! Couple that with the best James Bond movie in years with "Skyfall", and we were racing around like crazy until Sunday, Nov. 25th!
Even our college girls who were home for the holiday were pressed into service!
-And what a bang-up job they ALL did too!

I think its very easy to lose sight of the true purpose of "Thanksgiving" sometimes...
We equate it with turkey and trimmings and a kind of placid 'gateway' to the Christmas season.
But, as the name states, in and of itself, it is really a day to give 'thanks' for what we have.

Be it good health, or a loving family, or merely just a roof over your head; 'thanks' are in order.

For Susan and I, we gave thanks, among scores of other things, for our wonderful family; our 2 goofy granddaughters; my 86 year old mother still with us; and all our loyal friends at THE AVON THEATER!
Because YOU made the choice this holiday season to come see our movies in record-breaking hordes!!!

That's right: "Record Breaking".

We know we aren't the only movie-going choice in this area, and with only 3 screens, we understand you sometimes have to patronize those "other guys" for movies we don't have the available screen to play, but...
YOU SURE DID RIGHT BY US THIS THANKSGIVING SEASON!!

We thank-you, and give thanks for you!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Come See Me This Weekend!
I'm looking for you and you and...YOU!!!
