THE DARK KNIGHT RISES  (PG13)

Despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent's crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with villain Bane's plans to destroy the city. 

There's no other way to slice it, folks! This is the biggest movie of the year!
I know I sometimes rant about how 'same ol, same ol' and lame so many of the "Superhero" movies are (and they really ARE!), but the DARK KNIGHT series from masterworker Christopher Nolan just seems to transcend the genre, and become something else entirely...
But, you already knew all that!

MOONRISE KINGDOM(PG13)
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore -- and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl's parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.

A NOTE FROM SKIP

In last week's newsletter we still had not met humanity's latest bout with pure evil.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was right on the cusp of opening, and theater owners and moviegoers everywhere were excited.

THE AVON THEATER had a packed midnight show (as did just about everyone else opening this highly-anticipated movie) and our staff headed home about 4 AM on Friday, exhausted, but giddy with the anticipation of a huge weekend.

But, evil, true evil, can neither be predicted or prevented.
It is as much a part of the human experience as gentility and grace.

And, to further clarify: I am not talking about insanity, or access to weapons, or misfires of our brain synapses...
I am talking about evil.
Clear and calculated evil.

Some of us fight evil's seductive call on a regular basis, apparently...

All we, as hopefully decent human beings, can strive for is to recognize evil and try our best to not add to it.

There is nothing more I can say that hasn't already been said by those much more eloquent than I.

Just about one week ago, heaven had 12 fewer angels.
