THE ARTIST (PG13)
How many of you have experienced the veritable "time machine" journey of this incredible movie?
I worry that some of you may not come because you are sure you won't like it. You are wrong.

True, this is not a movie for the "mall crowd" clamoring for the next Adam Sandler atrocity, and its certainly not for those who have no sense of history.

But, it is an amazing and remarkable journey for the more discerning Avon Theater crowd!

Someone asked me last week why it was only playing at the Avon? Well, duh.

You might want to get to it this week before it moves to the Twins.
Not that there is a problem with seeing it at the Twins, mind you, but seeing THE ARTIST in the classic circa 1916 theater just seems to lend another element to it.

Its already won a boatload of awards, and is nominated for TEN OSCARS including "Best Picture", so gazillions must see the merits in this masterpiece, huh?
Maybe YOU should see what all the fuss is about!
But, come with an open mind.

THE ARTIST (PG13)
(Showtimes in brackets denote $5.75 "Bargain Matinees")
FRI: (4:00) - 7:00
SAT: (1:00) - (4:00) - 7:00
SUN: (1:00) - (4:00)
MON thru THURS: 7:00

YOUNG ADULT (R)
LIMITED ENGAGEMENT!! FRI, SAT & SUN ONLY!!
Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn't quite gotten over high school, either.
Despite its somewhat dour approach, Young Adult is a funny and ultimately powerful no-holds-barred examination of prolonged adolescence, thanks largely to a convincing performance by Charlize Theron.
YOUNG ADULT (R)
(Showtimes in brackets denote $5.75 "Bargain Matinees")
FRI: 8:00
SAT: (5:00) - 8:00
SUN: (5:00)
+++++++++++++++++++++++

THE IRON LADY (PG13)
ENDS WEDNESDAY!!
The Iron Lady is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep), the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century's most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.
THE IRON LADY (PG13)

FRI: (5:15) - 8:15
SAT: (2:15) - (5:15) - 8:15
SUN: (2:15) - (5:15)

EXTREMELY LOUD and INCREDIBLY CLOSE (PG13)
ENDING SOON!!
Oskar (Thomas Horn) is convinced that his father (Tom Hanks), who died in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, has left a final message for him hidden somewhere in the city. Feeling disconnected from his grieving mother (Sandra Bullock) and driven by a relentlessly active mind that refuses to believe in things that can't be observed, Oskar begins searching New York City for the lock that fits a mysterious key he found in his father's closet. His journey through the five boroughs takes him beyond his own loss to a greater understanding of the observable world around him.

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO

File this under "Rant":

The media has certainly had a field day with coverage of the unfortunate plight of the old Lincoln Square Theater here in downtown Decatur.

The problem is: SOME people get the two theaters, The Avon Theater and the Lincoln Square Theater, confused!
That's right!
It sounds incredible, but we actually have several people every day asking us about things that are strictly the dilemmas of the Lincoln Theater as if it were US!!

In spite of my requests to WAND-TV and the Herald & Review to give THE AVON THEATER some "balance" coverage, i.e. something like: "While the Lincoln Square Theater in downtown is up for sale, and has been struggling on life-support for years, THE AVON THEATER is celebrating its 14th YEAR OF CONTINUOUS OPERATION!!"

But, all that falls on deaf ears with the media.
Its the old "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality.

You'd think they would all be hungry for some POSITIVE news, wouldn't you?

I guess not!

SO....If YOU hear anyone get THE AVON THEATER and the poor old Lincoln Square Theater confused, SET THEM STRAIGHT!!

It looks like it's all up to YOU to do it!

Thanks!
End of Rant.

Come See Me Soon!!
I'm Looking for YOU!!

P.S. I can't reveal how we did in the Herald & Review "Reader's Choice" poll here quite yet, but, if you look on our Facebook page, you just might see something interesting!
