The RUM DIARY (R)
Based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson. Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Sanderson is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favorably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen's financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 (R)
The Paranormal Activity franchise continues with this third outing from Paramount Pictures. Oren Peli and Jason Blum return to produce the highly secretive feature, with Catfish's directing duo of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman taking on the helming duties.
The plot details have been kept firmly under wraps on this one, folks!
I've been told this is the scariest one yet!
Just in time for Halloween too!

RANTS, RAVES & RAMBLINGS FROM THE HEAD HONCHO
So, as the October country begins to fade from view, I usually breathe a sigh of relief; albeit one tinged with a wistful bit of regret.

October had always been my favorite month in Decatur...
But, ever since Troy Taylor and I founded the Haunted Decatur Tours in 1994, and I opened the Avon in 1999, October has become what could only be described as frantic for me.
It isn't that the movie biz is so exciting in that month---in fact, its considered one of the slower months in the industry---its all the special events and alternative programming we do in order to capitalize on the Avon's well-publicized haunts, and the mammoth endeavor of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW for one crazy midnight Friday & Saturday during the Halloween season.

Now, with this year's final bit of business for Halloween (our last round of Fri & Sat 10:30 FREE horror movies), and the 18th (!!) year of the Haunted Decatur Tours winding down another sold-out season, I am ready to look forward to the holidays.

What a line-up we have ramping up to Thanksgiving!
---And, looking forward to December, we have our annual FREE holiday movie nights, and a hand-picked roster of movies that will astound you!

The road construction on the Avon's block is nearing the worst point, after which it will start to get better and better.
After our block is finished, then get ready for the entire downtown to be re-done!

It'll be a big hassle for awhile, but the end result of all these projects downtown will be certainly worth it!
