WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (PG) I remember seeing this book laying about as my daughter, Melissa, was growing up, and now I know there are a whole lot of people who are excited about this finally on the big screen! This really is for all age groups, and is said to have a "magical" quality to it. It is not some run-of-the-mill computer-animated hoo-hah such as what has been clogging all the mainstream theaters this year, but a live action, very daring approach to what could have been much easier done (and more mundane) in the animated medium. And, joy of joys: It is NOT in 3D anywhere! (Many moviegoers are growing increasingly resentful of the high prices theaters are charging just for the privilege of renting those uncomfortable and headache-inducing 3D glasses! Shades of the last 3D wave in the 1950's!!)

THE INFORMANT! (R) Matt Damon will be leaving us after this week, after a record-setting run at the Avon! If you have not seen this at least TWICE (once for the movie, and once to spot the local people in it) then you better get those hushpuppies in gear, pronto! It ENDS WEDNESDAY, and there is NO WAY WE CAN HOLD IT!!! We mean it! We really, really do! REALLY!

COUPLES RETREAT (PG13) It always gives me a giggle when the critics try so hard to trash something, and the audiences who either realize most of them are fulla beans, or don't care what they say, take a chance on a movie they end up really liking! I don't know how many times this has happened in the past, but this one is a prime example! On opening night, a young gent came up to me after seeing it and said "The critics don't know anything---this was great!"
These days all it takes to be a film critic is a computer and a couch in their Mom's basement from which to spew all the negative hate-the-world diatribe they can muster! I wonder when some of them will get the idea that it takes more talent to be witty and POSITIVE??? It takes no talent whatsoever to be witty and acerbic!!
So, having had MY "review" of the flatulent film criticism world, here is VINCE VAUGHN and a whole bunch of his pals and other recognizable stars in a rollicking comedy about what is best described as "marriage encounter in the tropics".
I think you'll like this one, and I think it will put one more blow to your confidence in the film critics!
