SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (R) Is it possible this could be the "Best Picture" Oscar winner?? It is certainly the favorite to be! I know it sounds illogical with a title like that, and the fact that there is no recognizable "Hollywood star" in it, but, we are living in extraordinary times now, folks, where many formerly unattainable dreams are now reality. This film about poverty and fantasy has captured the hearts and minds of so many jaded people... It's about HOPE, and the incredible resiliance of the human spirit. Expect the unexpected and you will be rewarded greatly! AN AVON EXCLUSIVE!!

THE WRESTLER (R) Everyone is talking about MICKEY ROURKE'S incredible "come-back" performance in this one! The movie is a tough one to watch sometimes. This world of semi-pro wrestling that the film inhabits is not exactly sweetness and light. MARISA TOMEI'S Oscar-nominated performance as an ageing stripper who comes into the wrestler's life is another remarkable aspect of this resonating film. Personally, I found BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S title song over the end credits to be a haunting reminder of those lives lived on the fringe. HURRY!! ENDS SOON!!

A NOTE FROM SKIP...
On SATURDAY, JANUARY 31st, there will be the annual "Reader's Choice" poll results published in the Decatur Herald & Review in a special section. Please take the time to seek this out and look at all the fine establishments we have in the Decatur area!

I know it is very easy these days to concentrate on what we lack as a community, but, maybe it is better to celebrate what we HAVE!!

YOU voting THE AVON the Decatur area's "Best Place to See a Movie" for the 4th year in a row, is a heady thing, to say the least!
BUT...naming me as the #2 "Best Decaturite" (next to ex-Mayor Paul Osborne) is, to be perfectly honest, absolutely flabbergasting!! (My big sister, Stephani, is SOOOO jealous!).
All I can say is: "Wait'll next year, Paul!!" :-)

These are daunting time for all of us, folks, but I believe we have the inherent ability to rise in the face of adversity and take up the challenge to be better than we ever were!
There is a brighter road than now ahead of us, but, as the sage said: "Ya' gotta' get through it to get to it!"
I know, 'nuff said, right?

Come See Me This Weekend!!
I'll Be Looking for you and you and YOU!!
