STATE OF PLAY (PG13) So, aside from a jaw-droppingly astounding cast featuring RUSSELL CROWE, BEN AFFLECK, HELEN MIRREN and RACHEL McADAMS (and even Jeff Daniels as a slimy politico type) this turned out to be one terrific movie! All of the hordes of Avon customers who packed the place seemed SOOOOO happy to finally have a bonafide "AVON MOVIE" back!! And, truth be told, with the intelligent story and impeccable production values, this really was tailor-made for our more "discerning" crowd! (Maybe that is why we did so much more business on it than the "other guys", huh? More about that later...)
Don't miss this great film! Even though the plot is quite tricky, the movie will not leave you confused in the least!

17 AGAIN (PG13) Ok, so I said above "more about that later", right? Because, when we were whuppin' the "other guys" on "State of Play" last weekend, they were beating the tar out of US on this one!
I know WHY too! It's for the very same reason that will probably see a drop in ticket sales for them THIS weekend, but SHOULD go in the opposite direction for the Avon!
Y'see, this is NOT what you think it is!
Lots of little girls flocked to see this last weekend because it had their fave ZAC EFRON in it, and they thought it was like another "High School Musical" or something...
WRONG!
(I think that is why many of YOU citizens of AVONIA stayed away, too, right??)
Well, as it turns out, this has more of the vibe of "Big" or "Peggy Sue Got Married" than you think!
Give it a try this weekend, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

GRAN TORINO (R) So, I had a hole in the schedule this week, and I was stunned to see that GRAN TORINO has NOT BEEN RELEASED ON VIDEO YET!! In fact, it will be well into June before it finally hits the video shelves!
I thought there might be people who STILL have not seen it, or want to see it again (I saw it 8 times!) and have grown frustrated waiting for it to come out on DVD...
HERE IT IS AGAIN, FOLKS!! But, for only ONE-WEEK, so, if you are of a mind to: Come on down and see CLINT EASTWOOD's remarkable instant classic!!

A NOTE FROM SKIP...

In these challenging times, many businesses are trying different operational methods to see what can work and what can't...
Some are shortening hours of operation.
Some are raising prices.
Some are doing massive layoffs.
Some are just closing down, period.

We tried something last weekend, that, frankly, I was not happy with at all...

For years, we have maintained our "Bargain Matinees" as "All Shows Before 6 PM", but for some absolutely stupid reason on my part, I thought I would "shorten" that window and make the "Bargain Matinees" only for the "First Show of the Day", thus making the late-afternoon shows the same price as the evening shows...
This was a mistake.

Don't get me wrong, because NO ONE complained to me about it (and, to be fair, the Senior prices always stay the same anyway), but, I didn't like it one bit!

Yes, we made more ticket money for those shows, but at what long-term expense?
Actually, for those shows during that time frame last weekend, we were actually at a HIGHER PRICE than the "other guys", and that is something that made me absolutely nauseous!

Times are tough, and we are all trying to survive here.
There was no way my beloved AVON was going to change a long-standing policy and add to anyone's troubles!

SO...
Matinee prices are restored BACK to "All Shows Before 6 PM" !!

And THAT is THAT about THAT!

Come See Me This Weekend!
Spring has sprung, and it is always fair weather in AVONIA!!
