COMING SOON: Surprising Things!! (since the competition reads this newsletter, we may wait to announce them).
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
APPALOOSA (R) Whoa! I guess all of you were a'hankerin' for a good western, because you made the Avon the #1 grossing screen in Decatur last weekend! I know that you Western fans have specific ideas as to what constitutes a "good" western, and, pardner, this fills the bill! It's not just a "shoot 'em up" either!
ED HARRIS and VIGGO MORTENSEN are great "peacekeeper" partners, and RENEE' ZELLWEGER as the woman who interferes in their duties, with JEREMY IRONS as an evil land baron. Yup! That is the recipe for a new western classic! AN AVON EXCLUSIVE!!

FLASH OF GENIUS (PG13) It is amazing that Hollywood even makes movies like this anymore.
GREG KINNEAR received "Oscar Buzz" from his role here as the family man who invented the intermittent windshield wiper and then had the idea stolen by the big auto manufacturers. See this as a "David and Goliath" story (kind of like the Avon vs the "other guys", huh?)---a cautionary tale of how big business can gobble up a little guy...maybe.
This is an EXCLUSIVE and LIMITED ENGAGEMENT, so do not procrastinate about getting down here!

BODY OF LIES (R) The movie critics are buzzing all over the internet and other media as to how this film is the 9th straight middle-eastern based movie to flop. They say the public is so sick and tired of hearing about that part of the world, they are shunning all movies that have the slightest bent toward that...
I don't think that is fair to this film.
When you have A-list stars like RUSSELL CROWE and LEONARDO DiCAPRIO and a top-notch director like RIDLEY SCOTT, that should transcend all of the bugaboos about Iraq and the war on terror that Hollywood says you are all so sick and tired of.
BODY OF LIES is a THRILLER, and the fact it is set in the current middle-eastern conflict should not deter you in the least from seeing a good movie!

NIGHTS IN RODANTHE (PG13) Ok, ok, we just couldn't bear to let this one go! We have it on a VERY LIMITED run this weekend just for those of you who want to see it again, or have still not seen it!
It is leaving after Sunday, so get those clodhoppers a'movin'!!!

A NOTE FROM SKIP...
Thanks to all of you who signed my petitions this past weekend for me to be placed on ballot for the city council election in April.
As of this writing, there are over 1,000 signatures and counting!

This will only be for a 2-year term, so, if I mess it up too badly, you won't have to put up with me for very long!

We were also very surprised and touched at how many of our customers are NOT Decatur residents, and drive from Forsyth and Mt. Zion to come to the Avon!
That means we must be doing something right!

I would try to bring that same "customer comes first" old-fashioned sensibility to a position on the city council if I am given an opportunity.

BUT, for now...
The popcorn is warm and waiting for YOU this weekend!!

Come See Me!

-Skip Huston
