NOTES FROM SKIP
Last week I asked you to email me and tell me how you usually receive your movie showtimes and programming info.
An incredible number of you replied!
An equally incredible number stated you always look at this newsletter or our website!
Another large number said they always call our "hotline" (422-8151).
Hardly anyone said they looked at our expensive newspaper ads!
BUT, then I thought about something...
The survey was "tainted" because we sent it out to all our newsletter subscribers!
So, of course, THEY would all say the info was gotten from that very newsletter, huh?

In other words: There ain't no easy answer, folks!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
OSCAR COMMENTS
So, Sunday is the big Oscar day!
How many of you out there just said "Who Cares?"

The Oscars are very quickly becoming the "Awards for Movies Hardly Anyone Saw".
And that is a problem that is even worse in communities who don't have an "Avon Theatre"!!

We can't shoulder the blame for not playing more of the Oscar nominees, because we only have 3 screens, and, let's face it, THE BUCKET LIST and non-Oscar caliber films like that are what pays the bills!

With the length of time the studios mandate we must hold a film, well.. you do the math when you only have 3 screens to work with, and can't play more than one movie on each screen unless you get special dispensation from the Vatican (er, I mean, the studios, but you get my drift).

BUT, for those of you who care, I will detail what I think the "Best Picture" winner SHOULD BE, and WILL BE (they are different).

BEST PICTURE NOMINEES (I have seen all of them)

JUNO--Wonderful little feel-good film that doesn't stand a chance of winning.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN--85% of a good movie in search of a suitable ending.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD--Daniel Day-Lewis's performance is absolutely astounding. The movie is a hard one to like.

ATONEMENT--If you can make it past those indecipherable English accents to know what the heck is going on, it seems like a sad and very despairing and depressing romance.

MICHAEL CLAYTON--The only real "movie" in the bunch. It has a beginning, a middle and an end! What a concept!!

SHOULD WIN: MICHAEL CLAYTON

WILL WIN: ATONEMENT (It's this year's "English Patient", and you know what that means!)

MOVIES THAT GOT ROBBED:

THE KINGDOM--An un-qualified knock-out of a movie that deserved much better than it got!

AMERICAN GANGSTER--How could this be overlooked?? How insane is that?

3:10 TO YUMA--Yes, I know it was a "western", but there have been many "Best Picture" winners of that genre.

THE GREAT DEBATERS--Denzel Washington got robbed twice this year! This prideful and uplifting film and AMERICAN GANGSTER!!

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE--Don't give me any flack on this. One of the most original and audacious films I have seen in years!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Come See Me This Weekend, Folks!
I'll Be Looking for YOU!!
