THANK-YOU DECATUR!!! There certainly was no shortage of local opportunities to see SPIDER-MAN 3 this weekend, and I give heartfelt thanks that so many hundreds of you chose THE AVON!
The Summer got an outstanding kick-off from the first blockbuster of the season, and we had an exhausting, but very exciting weekend!
In the coming weeks, as we open more of the big ones like SHREK THE THIRD, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3, OCEAN'S 13, and the new HARRY POTTER, we hope you will continue to make us your first choice!

Remember, THE AVON is YOUR theater. It is Decatur's ONLY locally-owned-and-operated movie house.

NOTE: This week and next will see a bit of what we call "positioning" our screens for some of the upcoming
BIG ones...What this means is we will be bringing in some limited engagement attractions in order to make sure we have a screen open for SHREK THE THIRD next week, and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3 the week after. This will give you the chance to "catch-up" on some of the films you ONLY WANTED TO SEE AT THE AVON! Please pay close attention to the showtimes so you don't miss something you have been waiting for!

SPIDER-MAN 3 (PG13) What more can be said about this that hasn't already been all over the news media? Yes, it is an incredibly entertaining epic, and YES, it made more moolah than in the studio's wildest dreams. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst reprise their roles from the first two films (in fact, everyone is back) and director Sam Raimi returns as well! AND...guess what?? There is a slight "Avon connection" to this movie too! Cult movie star Bruce Campbell has had a cameo in every Spider-Man movie (Raimi is his old pal), and, Bruce has made 2 personal appearances at the Avon,  and may be back again in the Fall if all goes as planned! Bruce told me himself the Avon is one of his favorite theaters! So, how 'bout that? Look for him in SPIDER-MAN 3 as waiter with a "Clouseau-like" accent.

WILD HOGS (PG13) One-Week-Only! Better late than never, right? Circumstances beyond our control prevented us from playing this huge hit for the past 60+ days, and I certainly hope there are some of you out there who either still have not already seen it, or who want to see it again. I know I am dying to see it, but, since I won't ever set foot in the "other guys", I have to either wait for video or play it when I can at The Avon! So, you'll see ME in the there watching it!! This inspired casting of John Travolta, Tim Allen, William H. Macy and Martin Lawrence was one of the most "critic proof" movies in history! Most of the critics hated it, but the audiences LOVED it!
The supporting cast includes Ray Liotta,  Oscar-winner Marissa Tomei and TV's Jill Hennessey. One-Week-Only!!

IN THE LAND OF WOMEN (PG13) FRIDAY-SATURDAY - SUNDAY ONLY! Here is Meg Ryan in a definitive "Avon movie" that we didn't have the room to open when it first came out about 3 weeks ago. From the popular book of the same name, this has been in development for filming  several years now.Yes, this is an Avon "chick-flick", but that doesn't bother me at all! The Avon is known for its "chick flicks", because many women feel safer to come to The Avon than those "other guys" (and I don't blame them!)---so, now you can see it where it should have been all along! Be cautioned, however, it is only playing FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY!!

LUCKY YOU (PG13) Ever since director Curtis Hanson pulled off the filming of the difficult LA CONFIDENTIAL with such sublime virtuosity, I have been a fan. His WONDER BOYS from a few years back was an overlooked gem, and his mainstream entry of IN HER SHOES had much more depth than I expected...Here he brings a fine cast including Oscar-winner Robert Duvall, audience favorite Drew Barrymore and hunky Eric Bana to a comedy-drama about the world of high-stakes gambling and the resulting obsessions. This has not been "discovered" by audiences, and that is a shame. ENDS THURSDAY!!

FILM CLASSES START THURSDAY JUNE 7th!!
For all of you who have gone "cold turkey" since film classes ended in April, they are almost ready to start again! Summer means the MOST POPULAR series of the Avon Film Classes as we present OVERLOOKED FILMS--Part 6  (or is it 5?)
What a great way to spend the Summer, with 8 weeks of every Thursday night at 6:30, movies you will enjoy and discuss with a lot of nice people. The Avon Film Classes boast enrollees from all walks of life; some prominent citizens, some just average Joe's...but ALL are MOVIE FANS like you!! Enrollment can be secured by calling the adult education department at Richland, or simply coming by the Avon lobby for a flyer. Tuition is $80 for 8 Thursdays of cinema pleasure!
