WHY are we so high on WAITRESS???
Read what noted film critic Leonard Maltin said about it:
WAITRESS - Waitress is the kind of film that renews my faith in movies. After months of mediocrity-with a few exceptions scattered here and there-along comes a movie that's as fresh as the pies its main character bakes every morning.
Keri Russell is wonderful in the role of a young woman who seems to have a lot on the ball, but can't break away from her stifling, abusive husband (Jeremy Sisto). Her only means of escape is to visualize a daring and inventive new pie recipe, which she does all the time.

I don't want to say much more about the premise of Waitress, because it's the kind of film you ought to see knowing as little as possible. It's not so much a story as a slice of life (pun intended), and its ensemble is filled to the brim with colorful, well-drawn characters, played by Cheryl Hines, Nathan Fillion, filmmaker Adrienne Shelly, and Andy Griffith, who's so good as the cantankerous owner of the diner where Russell works that I hope Oscar voters remember him at the end of the year and nominate him as Best Supporting Actor.

Writer-director Shelly presents Waitress in the form of a modern-day fairy tale, creating such a tangible world that you want to walk into the movie screen and be part of that life. I can't think of a higher compliment to bestow upon a movie, or a better epitaph for the talented woman who made it.
-Leonard Maltin

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (PG13) At last we have a Summer blockbuster that really feels like an "event"!! True, our Midnight showing Tuesday night broke all existing records, and true, there are those who have already come back to see it again, but, let's face it, the HARRY POTTER films cut a wide swath across mainstream America, and appeal to an enormously diverse crowd! If you are not a POTTER devotee, this is the time to start!!

TRANSFORMERS (PG13) More and more people are discovering that this is not just a "guy" movie, but a real slam-bang action-adventure! You don't have to be cognizant of the entire back-story to enjoy this one, just think "bad robots vs good robots, and puny humans caught between"---FUN!!!

A MIGHTY HEART (R) There is already massive early-Oscar buzz for Angeline Jolie in this movie! The true-story of the wife of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, and her journey to rescue her kidnapped husband is from the best-selling book. Those of you who have been clamoring for more "art & indy" films, here is a doozy! It is only playing FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY, so get down there!!

SO WHERE IS "SICKO"????
I have been getting emails and phone calls asking where Michael Moore's new movie on the state of American healthcare, SICKO, is, and why aren't we playing it. Some of these inquiries have been downright offensive (now there's a real incentive for me to play it!)...
It seems there are those who enjoy finding conspiracies and dirty dealings in every facet of their lives!
Well, don't be looking this way for that foolishness, folks!
We have not played SICKO for ONE reason, and ONE reason ONLY:
WE DO NOT HAVE THE AVAILABLE SCREEN FOR IT!

The studio for SICKO is demanding a 4 week run, and that is not something we can fit in at this time.
It isn't like we can bring it in for a weekend or even a single week!
A FOUR WEEK RUN IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR US RIGHT NOW!!

We only have three screens, and we need to cover all the big Summer movies we can so we are healthier when the Fall slowdown comes!
Hopefully, by mid-to-late August, the studio for SICKO will be more realistic and allow a shorter run!
-or-
Maybe the "other guys" (who really do read this newsletter every week) will free up one of their 22 screens to play it?
(But, wait, there may be a CONSPIRACY there too!!!!!)

Come See Me Soon!

I'll Be Looking for You and You and...YOU!!
